If you want to live a full, quality life, you must learn to look closely at the things you eat, choose those that would help you the most and make eating them a way of life. Thankfully, there are many health foods today that can help you not only to live longer, but also attain optimum health—like maca roots.

What is it?

Native to the high altitudes of the Andes Mountains, maca is a plant that belongs to the Cruciferous family such as watercress and broccoli. The plant’s roots—maca roots—have been used by the Incas and Peruvians as medicine for over 3,000 years. Maca roots look much like a robust radish or turnip. It has an earthy, nutty taste and an aroma akin to butterscotch which is why it was also considered an important vegetable crop by the ancients.

Maca is divided into varieties based on the colour of its roots: yellow, red, blue, green, gray and black. The red, black and yellow roots are the predominant varieties available today. Yellow or cream maca is highly favoured for its sweet taste and is known to be potent in boosting energy and sexual drive.

What are its nutritional content and health benefits?

Maca roots have many names: miracle drug, natural Viagra, food of the gods, magic food. All these names were associated to this amazing plant for good reasons.

Rich in quality carbohydrates, significant concentrations of potassium, iron, calcium and alkaloids, maca roots greatly contribute to the formation of haemoglobin and red blood cells. It is rich in prostaglandins and sterols that over time of regular intake, may lower blood cholesterol.

The effects of maca roots in increasing libido, fertility and sperm count is legendary as the ancients have been using it exactly for those purposes for centuries. Research has proven that maca roots have nearly ALL of the essential amino acids (Glutamic acid, leucin, alanine, etc) and zinc (12mg/100g) that contribute to normal fertility and reproduction, enhancement of sexual desire in both men and women, and increase in sperm count and semen quality. It is believed to even help people with erectile dysfunction.

What makes our Maca powder different?

Nowadays, raw organic maca roots can be found in many health food shops in several forms—pills, extracts, gelatinized (where the starch in raw maca are removed for easier digestion) and powdered form. But are the maca roots used in these products really raw? Were they grown organically? Did it undergo careful processing so as not to lose its nutrients? Do they really have the best maca root powder?

Impact Foods is proud to say that we offer premium maca powder that—above all else—have been grown in its native habitat 4,000 meters above the plateaus of Peru and the Andes, where the maca plants naturally thrive. The seeds are sown in the rich soil of the Andes and Peruvian mountains and are trampled into the ground. They are left there to grow throughout winter.
Our maca plants are organically grown. They are organically certified by Organic Farmers and Growers who is one of UK’s leading organic control bodies. This way, you can be sure our product is not tainted with pesticides, sulfite and other preservatives.
When the roots of the maca plant have reached a diameter of five centimetres, they are carefully dug out by hand in order to avoid damage. The roots are then dried naturally under the sun. After about two weeks, the dried raw organic maca roots are quickly weighed, cleaned and picked so that only the best roots remain. These are washed, disinfected, cut into segments and under a controlled process, milled into a fine powder. But we have very strict quality control guidelines. To further ensure that our customers will get only the best final product, the premium maca powder is tested for microbes before it is packed. We go over the product’s quality once more before it can be shipped and distributed. This is our assurance that our customers will only get the best maca root powder there is.
You might be hesitant to use maca powder in food—but don’t be. There are many ways to use maca powder in food and drink. For instance, you can simply add one teaspoon of premium maca powder to start with in just about every smoothie you can think of. You can also include it in baking recipes, added in porridge and soups, yoghurt and many more.
